I was over on Seb Paquet’s Emergent Cities blog this morning, and rereading his inaugural post from about a year ago – What are Emergent Cities? He makes the claim that “we’re about to see the emergence of a new way of conducting innovation that operates quasi-independently of the current money system,” and that the [...]

This is a guest post by Bernd Nurnberger. The original on his blog – Community of practice and trust building – A few days ago I shared my crude model how we go from words to trust. I strung it along: word, definition, context, grammar, meaning, concept, understanding, salience, insight, trust, reputation. I believe each prior [...]

Only in the past few months have I heard this term “asset mapping” as a needed tool to surface hidden but available value, bootstrap communities, and get shit done. As I’ve gone back through my own blog and thinking/writing, I see that i also have been talking about this since 2009, though I was calling [...]

A few years ago, I had a big snowcrash moment about the power of networks and the web, envisioning the amazing potential that could be unleashed if we could just build our networks and weave them all together. Fast forward 18 months or so, and I find myself embedded within overlapping networks of networks…. and [...]

I just got back from co-facilitating my first Fusion, an amazing two day event in Mill Valley, California! (We modeled it after the Fusion retreat I attended a few weeks ago.) The framing was intended to address the question many of us are asking at both personal and organizational levels today – How do we [...]

(originally posted on Shareable) In the last nine months of planning the Contact Summit, I’ve come across a range of projects and initiatives building toward the “Next Net.” Though they vary in their stages of development and specific implementations, they fall under the common themes of enabling peer-to-peer communication and exchange, protecting personal freedom and privacy, [...]

As part of The Future of Facebook Project, we’ve been tapping the wisdom of crowds to explore the opportunities and pitfalls for this company and its userbase. We asked the experts 15 questions, and have posted those same questions for the public to answer on Quora. A few days ago I posted some answers that were [...]

[This article is crossposted from Jorge Jaime's blog, in response to my video post a few weeks back about "The Conversation." I recorded an hour long chat on skype with Scott Lewis (@jazzmann91), broken down into 5 minute clips, in which we discussed the concept behind Junto. Namely, it is a conversation platform we are inspiring to be built around the intention of creating a respectful space where people can engage in generative dialogue and come to a place of understanding and shared meaning. Scott and I discussed what that looks like, and what kind of core values people may embrace in order to have meaningful, productive conversations that lead to positive action. In the comments section of that post, Jorge suggested someone break down the content of the discussion so that others could learn from it. I suggested he do it. He did. And here it is below! Very thorough breakdown, thank you Jorge. Original post here.]

[This is a crosspost from Alpha Lo's blog, Open Collaboration. Though he had a much catchier title for the post ("What I Learned From Venessa Miemis" - ha), I thought he did a great job listing some of the attitudes and behaviors helpful when trying to extend oneself, collaborate, and evolve. Alpha's doing some amazing work in creating gift circles on the west coast. Check out the original post and comments here.]
